Congratulations to Barbara Hughes on becoming our latest Conservative District Councillor in a recent by-election in the Cellarhead ward.
Following the untimely death of May Day of the Staffordshire Independent Group (SIG), a by-election was called which attracted no fewer than five candidates. This seat was a stronghold for the SIG and along with candidates from Labour, Liberal Democrats and UKIP looked like a difficult ward to take.
This did not, however, deter Barbara and her team from campaigning hard and ceaselessly getting the vote out right up to close of polling. A well organised campaign ran like clockwork over the three weeks that it ran for and the result speaks for itself;
Conservative 178 32.5%
Labour 132 24.1%
SIG 119 21.85%
UKIP 105 19.2%
Lib Dems 13 2.4%
This is a fantastic result and is testament to all the hard work put into the campaign by Barbara, Sybil Ralphs and David Shaw along with their network of volunteers.
Barbara now joins Tony McNichol, a fellow Conservative Councillor, in representing the people of Cellarhead and long may this continue.
